You should have a first contact nickname for any eventuality. The symbol ‘>’ at the beginning of a nickname indicates a “first contact nickname”. The “first contact symbol >’ does not belong to the nickname.

Sometimes you come across situations, where you are interested in someone or you dont have the opportunity to talk to a person. Also you dont want to give your phone number or email address during the first contact. In this case you give him or her your first contact nickname and start messaging.
